Green Foodie!

Vegetables grown in our very own community garden where we live. It's chemical and pesticide-free too. Angel and I just feel so lucky!

Alugbate, Talbos ng Kamote (Camote Top), Malunggay, Saluyot and Lemongrass.

Cooked simply in "Laswa style"...

And onto my plate for lunch with Basmati rice! (Wish you were here my beloved.) :)

Many thanks to Bebeng for helping me pick those greens from the community's vegetable patch! :)

Happy green eating everyone! :)

  1. looks great, trace! thanks for sharing. love those local veges too and i usually cook "laswa" here every week during the summer. my fave "laswa" is saluyot with okra, kalabasa, bamboo shoots and talong with organic bragg seasoning instead of fish sauce (which lowers the sodium content). that combo is good for cleansing as well since saluyot or jute leaves, okra and bamboo shoots are rich in fiber. my mom keeps an organic garden in her backyard and has all the veges mentioned in the "bahay kubo" song haha... and i usually ship them via priority mail to ilonggo friends in other cities/states. malunggay is one of the most nutritious greens there is and saluyot is an ancient anecdote to wrinkles favored by cleopatra herself. let's just eat those greens and say goodbye to anti-wrinkle creams ;)

  2. by the way, saw in gma life tv today an organic restaurant that is so green-oriented that they incorporate malunggay in almost all their dishes. the malunggay pesto sauce and the vege burger (malunggay pandesal and mushroom burger patty) looks interesting. wonder if you're familiar with the resto and if you could tell me the name so i could drop by there when i'm in town.

  3. Hey Jinky pinky! surely and thanks for reading! Wow, you do know your vegetables real well!! indeed! the natural way to stay youthful. Aww, we should really get together sometime catch up and even share all our green stories.. That's awesome of your mom to do that. It's my dream to someday own a farm in Iloilo and plant all organic veggies and herbs. If not, a house with a huge backyard to grow all that! Hmm, Manila is really growing greener now and I think I heard of that place. Let me look that up and get back to you. Miss you heaps dear!! xoxo :)
